For May I’m going to recommend a book that brings you right into nature and adventuring, two things I’m missing detrimentally at the moment. May’s book of the month is “A walk in the woods” by Bill Bryson.
This book is a true story about Bill going on the extremely unlikely journey along the Appalachian Trail. He’s unprepared, uninformed and ends up with an even less likely hiking partner. Through their adventure you see their highs and lows, personal struggles and feats through Bill’s eyes. His journey is a bit… unique, and his partner even more so. Bill brings a lot of humor into his writing and is also just the right amount of descriptive. If there’s one thing I don’t like, it’s multiple pages of just describing the scene and Bill does well to avoid this while still explaining the views well enough to imagine them.
Since many of the walks through the woods are inaccessible to us right now, the Appalachian Trail being one of them, it’s the next best thing to read about it. This book left me feeling driven to adventure and made me feel positive about my next adventure, whenever it may be. It also did a great job of making me appreciate how cozy home is and how comfortable all the amenities I have are. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!
